Resistor color code calculator
Quickly identify the value of your resistors with our color code calculator. This tool helps you decode the colored bands printed on resistors to determine their exact value, tolerance, and temperature coefficient for 3 band, 4 band , 5 band , and 6 band resistors. Perfect for students, technicians, and electronics enthusiasts.

3 Band Resistor Color Code
3-band resistors are the simplest type: the first two bands represent the significant digits, and the third band represents the multiplier. Example: Red – Violet – Orange = 27 × 1,000 = 27 kΩ
4 Band Resistor Color Code
4 band resistors include a fourth band that indicates the tolerance, allowing for a more accurate measurement of the actual resistance value. Example: Brown – Black – Red – Gold = 1,000 Ω ±5%
5 Band Resistor Color Code
5 band resistors are commonly used in precision circuits. The first three bands represent the significant digits, the fourth is the multiplier, and the fifth shows the tolerance. Example: Brown – Black – Black – Red – Brown = 10.0 kΩ ±1%
6 Band Resistor Color Code
6 band resistors provide the highest precision. In addition to the first five bands (value and tolerance), the sixth band represents the temperature coefficient, useful for temperature-sensitive applications. Example: Blue – Gray – Black – Red – Brown – Red = 68.0 kΩ ±1%, 50 ppm/°C
